Canada’s leading magazine devoted to long-form journalism, opinions and critical thinking.
Saturday Night began its life in 1887 under the editorship of E.E. Sheppard. Authors such as Dennis Lee and Margaret Atwood received their first national exposure in the pages of the esteemed magazine, which ceased publication in 2005. In 1987, it celebrated its centenary, becoming the longest surviving magazine in the country.

Opportunity
With a new editor at the helm, we had a chance to bring Canada's leading general interest magazine into a new era, while also respecting its long-standing history of delivering its readers important stories about politics, literature and the arts.
Solution
The approach was to echo Saturday Night’s glorious past by using contemporary typography with a retro feel and bold display copy. We commissioned photography and conceptual illustrations by leading artists to pair with feature stories by reknowned authors.
